My name is Russell. My friends and family call me Rusty. I became interested in teaching several years ago when I taught a 5th grade Sunday school class. Recently, I went back to college and earned a Masters degree in Instructional education. My undergraduate degree is a Bachelor of Science in Electronics Engineering Technology, from DeVry University.
My teaching philosophy is simply that, every student can learn if they have a desire to learn. I believe we should all be lifetime learners. We never get to old to learn, and we should strive to expand our knowledge and understanding. I think students should be assisted in determining their preferred learning styles. Students should be encouraged to set their own personal goals and work toward achieving those goals. I think that most learning takes place outside of the classroom. I think learning takes place when we build upon previous knowledge. As we gain new knowledge we should reflect back on previous beliefs and assumptions, and adjust our beliefs according to the best information.
I think that teaching is a calling and that learning is a commitment. I look forward to participating in your education.
