I received my B.S degree in Engineering from Tianjin University in China, M.S in Mathematics, and PhD from Louisiana Tech University.
I have more than 5 years of teaching experience,I also tutor on the internet.
From my teaching experience, I can say that the most important factors in a successful tutoring session are:
1) Constantly assessing the student to see if he/she understands the material being taught, also it serves to see if the student has the necessary background knowledge.
2) Making sure that the student is participating and involved, math is a subject that practice is a important part of learning procedure.
3) Being patient and guiding the student through the logic flow of problem-solving procedure so not only can a student follow the steps, he/she also understands the underlining reasoning, which is how a student builds up the math skills.
4)Students learn differently, it is important to use a tutoring method that students can understand and feel comfortable with.
4) Use as many examples as needed. Through examples not only can students understand a certain type of problem, at the same time they can improve their inductive reasoning skills, which happens to be one of the most important skills when it comes to learning math.
