Hi, my name is Heather and I am interested in tutoring you because I believe that learning is a lifelong skill that needs nurturing and development. Through my tutoring I hope to give you the skills and inspiration to keep learning throughout your educational and life experiences.
I have always taught in capacities outside of the public school room. I have taught English to nonspeakers of English in Colombia, S.A., instructed adults in the dance form called "NIA", a mind-body technique incorporating jazz, martial arts and African beats, and worked as a Home Economist, with a specialty in Clothing and Textiles for the USDA Cooperative Extension Service. I have assisted in teaching Argentine Tango and trained restaurant employees in beverage service and menu content.
My teaching style is flexible and being a highly organized person, it follows an outline with clearly defined objectives. These would be discussed in detail with you so that we work toward defined goals together. Sometimes the "learning by doing" method is received better than adherence to a rigid set of goals that do not produce results. I have experienced both learning methods and will adjust my methods depending on your learning style.
I hold two degrees. A B.S. from the University of New Hampshire and an M.A. from San Francisco State University. Recently I completed an online course in Global Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management. Two years ago I studied Spanish in Antigua, Guatemala, to keep working on my desire to be fluent in Spanish. I have worked with Hispanics in the wine and restuarant businesses extensively.
