English doesn't have to be boring. Learning grammar, writing, vocabulary, and literature will provide new and expanded levels of communication and expression. For a young person, English can become a means to connect with themselves and others from limitless time periods, countries, and backgrounds. This is so valuable in a time when many young people only see life through the lens of CGI characters and reality TV personalities. More On Amoreena's Subjects:

  • basketball

Basketball is my favorite sport! I have been playing it for over a decade, and am familiar with every position. Now that I am older, I am enjoying helping others learn the game and develop their specific style on the court. Many students have told me, that what they like most about my coaching are my patience and enthusiasm. My personal experience as a basketball player includes six years of playing (four for Varsity), Captain of the High School team, two years in the AAU League, three years at Cathy Rush Basketball camp, and one year assistant coaching at the high school level.

  • Bible studies

The Bible is an inspired book filled with spiritual, historical, scientific and philosphical insights. Although many disagree on its place and credibility, no can argue against the beauty of this work of literature. My incentive for studying the Bible is my strong faith in a living God, Who created the universe and gave all of its contents a purpose. My belief system has fueled my academic Bible coursework for nine years, and led to my achievement of a Bachelors of Science in Bible from Philadelphia Biblical University. I have taught the Bible to students of various ages, in the settings of church (Bible Baptist Church, Hamilton) and private Christian institutions (Perkins' Christian Institue, Trenton; New Jersey United Christian Academy, Cream Ridge).

  • drawing

Ever since I was a little girl studying my father's advertising sketches, I have been fascinated with drawing. While in high school, I studied fine art/drawing and was placed in the Advanced Art program. During my Junior and Senior year, I was the Art Editor of our school newspaper the RamPage. Also, during high school, I won the Woman's Space poster contest, in which I designed a poster to educate about domestic violence. Other outlets for my drawing have included the creation of pamphlet covers and framed artwork. Now out of college, I mostly draw as a hobby, but would love to help someone foster their own passion for drawing.

  • elementary (k-6th)

I have taught students at the elementary level and the secondary level. In 2003, I taught a combined class of third and fourth graders at the private school: Perkins' Christian Academy. The subjects I covered were Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Writing, Reading, and Spelling. Additionally, I tutored students after-school, at Perkins', ranging from kindergarten through eigth grade. I have also tutored fourth and fifth grade stutdents through the East Windsor School District EDP (after-school program).
