About Anne:

I am a recent Princeton Graduate who has been tutoring for six years. I love to work with - and motivate - students, hopefully making them as interested in their subject as I am!

At Princeton I received three prizes for my academic work. One for the best essay in the humanities, one research grant and one for the best senior thesis dealing with literary composition. I also volunteered at the childrens' library, formed part of a childrens' theatre troupe and worked as President of the Princeton Shakespeare Company (I'm Shakesepare-crazy!).

I have worked with students on an individual basis from ages 14 to 18. I've also held several teaching and residential life positions working with groups of students as young as 9.

I try to tailor my approach to each individual student as much as possible, but I like to encourage students to work independently as possible. I also like to pay attention to the way my students are studying, helping them to use their time as efficiently as possible. I guess I have an odd fascination with study-skills, something that my high school was known for!

I love to work with young people and in the future, I aspire to be the Artistic Director of either a childrens' theatre or a theatre with a large educational outreach program.

I hope that tells you all you need to know, but do drop me an email if you have any more questions!

I look forward to meeting you,
Georgina

More On Anne's Subjects:

  • elementary (k-6th)

I began my teaching by doing work experience at my school's kindergarten where I was responsible for teaching a general curriculum for an hour a day as well as being a teaching assistant for the remainder of the day. Here, like at Cotsen, I would also teach reading and maths on a one to one basis. At University, I volunteered regularly at Cotsen's childrens' library, teaching reading, writing and math, even dressing up as Beatrice Potter! In Romania, I also taught this age group ESL.

  • ESL/ESOL

As an English Graduate, I pay special attention to the way that langauge is formed and crafted. My junior independent study was focussed on Elizabethan rhetoric and style, charting how it had changed through the ages. I took two classes dedicated to this topic: "Style" and "Classical Rhetoric," both of which required an expert knowledge of English Grammar. I also have a lot of experience with learning foreign languages: in addition to having learnt French to a college standard, I have also tutored French and know basic Latin. This would help me to teach a foreigner our language.

  • study skills

I went to a high-school that had a special program in study-skills, designed to prepare us for the rigorous nationalised exams that make up the British Education system! We would have two periods a week on study-skills, a subject that fascinates me. I have tutored study-skills before. Most recently I tutored a girl who was getting all C's in school, we used essay writing as a basis for classes on "how to study" and her mother emailed today to say that "Alessia had to do her first essay about a poem yesterday and I want to quickly give you the good news: I did not recognize her style and approach."

  • theatre

Completing my A-Level in Theatre Studies left me with a burning desire to do more performance studies. My Thesis was on performance history, looking at how performance conditions shaped Shakespeare's writing. I have also taken classes on Restoration Performance History and consider myself an amateur scholar on the subject. I taught an after school workshop called "Performance through Literature" in high school which looked at Brecht, Stanivlaski and Devising Theatre. I also tutored theatre this summer to prepare a girl for a Yale Drama Camp.
