I recently graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in biology, and a concentration neuroscience. During college, I tutored undergraduate students in biology courses—Intro Biology, Cellular Neurobiology, and Developmental Biology—helping them with course content, problem sets, and test preparation. Also in Philadelphia, I spent time tutoring elementary school children in reading and writing. Over the past six months, I have independently tutored high school students in biology, Spanish, algebra and geometry. I was responsible for preparing materials for tutoring sessions, including sample problems and diagnostic quizzes. I spent 7 months living in Guatemala, while developing and teaching health education workshops for women and children.
I don’t like to lecture. I think students get enough lectures in the classroom. I like to use dynamic and engaging activities to teach my subjects. I tailor my lessons to each student, using individual learning methods.
I truly enjoy teaching and in the process becoming a friend and mentor to my students. I have had wonderful experiences during college and beyond, and I want to share these diverse and interesting experiences, creating trusting and lasting relationships with my students and their families.
