Hi, I am looking to use my brain power as a means of helping students succeed. My biggest strengths fall under reading, creative writing and grammar. However, I am competent in tutoring elementary math and secondary school math up to pre-algebra. Furthermore, I have been musically trained in classical piano, and acoustic guitar. I am also able to help with song writing and basic computer skills.
My gpa and SAT scores are by no means a reflection of my intelligence but they do explain why I aim to be a compassionate and understanding tutor. During my first half of public schooling, I enjoyed test-taking because I always knew I would do well and wouldn't need to study. HOWEVER, when I began to get older and enter grades where tests were a large part of my overall grade, I began to get nervous. This affected my test-taking abilities, and anxiety replaced the happy reservoir of confidence I once had.
I would like to help kids who are going through the same thing I went through. They just need encouragement in the form of reminders that they are smart, they are able to succeed and that the tests they take will not define who they are. I am determined to give that encouragement and help them learn and improve their academic skills.
