About Jared:

I am an English-Writing major currently enrolled at UT Chattanooga (graduating in December of 2008), and I spent a semester abroad studying Japanese in Nagoya. I am conversationally fluent in both Japanese and German, and have experience tutoring EFL at a university level. Furthermore, I feel qualified to tutor beginning-to-intermediate Japanese (conversation, reading, and writing) or beginning to advanced German (conversation, reading, and writing).

More On Jared's Subjects:

  • Japanese

After years of self-taught and tutor-guided Japanese study, I lived in Nagoya, Japan, specifically to study Japanese. I have achieved conversational fluency and can adequately teach hiragana, katakana, and kanji. My pronunciation is, as my native Japanese instructor said, "daijoubu" ("okay," or not needing improvement), and I have some direct experience of idiom and speaking conventions that one often cannot learn in an academic setting. However, I am also well-versed in standard grammar and usage, and have a practical vocabulary of an estimated 2,000 words.
