About William:

I'm a computer science student at the University of California, San Diego. My primary interest is in games and graphics programming. Outside of school I enjoy working on my own software projects, reading, and composing electronic music. I've got a pretty wide breadth of interests, so I like to think I can interact well with a range of different people.

I was a tutor for Mira Costa College in Oceanside for several years. During that time I assisted students in the subjects of C++, Java, English/Critical Writing, and Beginning/Intermediate Japanese. I received many positive evaluations from satisfied students and several personal recommendations from instructors.

I believe that it's beneficial to understand why something works the way it does, as opposed to simply knowing that it works. I prefer to help students arrive at a solution by themselves, with small hints and encouragements, as opposed to simply giving them the answer; practice is the best way to learn and remember things!

More On William's Subjects:

  • C++

    I've been programming in C/C++ for about 7 years now. In addition to plenty of independent study, I have used C++ in many of my computer science at UCSD. I also have experience using advanced C++ features such as memory management, generics, and the Standard Template Library. From 2001 to 2004, I worked as a tutor for C++ students at Mira Costa College in Oceanside, and as a paper grader for the main CSE instructors. I had several students report that I was the most helpful of Mira Costa's computer science tutors. I'm confident that I can help you as well! :)

  • general computer

    I've been using computers basically since I was born. My family's purchase of its first Macintosh in the mid 80s began my life-long fascination with computers. Presently, I'm a computer science student at the University of California, San Diego. This has given me an opportunity to use all of the "big 3" operating systems: Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. I've installed and modified operating systems, configured applications, and have become skilled at identifying and fixing problems. I have additionally built and maintained several PCs for myself and others, so I have skill in hardware configuration and troubleshooting as well. Although I have some experience with Linux and Windows Vista, I'm definitely most proficient with Mac OS X and Windows XP.
