About John:

I am a bi-vocational person - one who has more than one qualified area of expertise in which to work. My undergraduate degree is in Biology, but I soon got additional training in Respiratory Therapy where I found an aptitude for medical subjects (A&P, medical vocabulary, sleep technology, etc). I taught RT and was a Sleep Lab consultant for 15+ years. My 2nd vocation came when I went to seminary to become a chaplain. I am an ordained Christian minister and my ministry is helping inmates and other students develop a closer walk with God. I have taught Apologetics, IBS, Bible Studies, Doctrine & applied Koine Greek as well as mentored 5 inmate-students.My GPA in college was a 2.0, but my final average in RT was an 86% and my GPA in seminary was 3.6!

More On John's Subjects:

  • Bible studies

I am an ordained minister for the Church of God (Anderson, IN) but my denominational background also includes Presbyterian, Lutheran, Baptist, and Methodist. I have been an occasional student of the Bible until I began volunteering in local and prison ministry organizations. My studies intensified as a result of my calling into professional ministry. Since graduating, I have been holding Bible studies on both a lay and pre-seminary level with inmates and regular citizens. My Bible classes have involved audio/visual studies, individual books of the Bible, topical approaches, doctrines, apologetics, hermeneutics, introduction to homiletics (preaching techniques), Koine Greek and applied original language approaches, and IBS/exegetical approaches. I have taught in Discipleship Institutes, prison, Sunday Schools, from the pulpit, and been a liaison for a baccalaureate degree program (Baptist theology). I've been teaching Bible studies for 6 years and a Christian for 50 years.

  • Greek

I am an ordained minister with a Masters in Divinity - a degree that requires familiarity with the original languages of the Bible. Koine Greek is one of those languages! The way in which we used Koine Greek was more academic than interactive, which means we were more concerned with its written form and how it was used to describe the theology in the Bible. Thus, my approach is not in Greek as a spoken language but as a written tool. Towards that end, most of my studies were in using the grammar and syntax of Koine Greek. Students who wish to investigate Koine Greek past the point of initial language studies would be more interested in my tutoring them then students interested in learning how to speak it.

  • religion

I am an ordained minister of the Church of God (Anderson, IN), having graduated from seminary in 2005. I have been a member of other denominations (Presbyterian, Baptist, Lutheran, and Methodist) as well. My varied background gives me a wider perspective than many ordained ministers, and my job as a volunteer Chaplain at a state prison requires me to have a supportive nature for anyone's personal faith walk. Because of my prison chaplaincy experience, I have often sought out other denominations to give talks so those who are curious can see how another's religion is similar or contrasting to their own. In addition, as a chaplain, it helps to know the denominational background of the inmates I see so I can provide individualized care to them as needed.
