Hello students and parents! I'm Amy and am currently an undergraduate student attending New York University's College of Arts and Science. I love working and learning with people in a small, interactive environment. My many passions in life include (but are not limited to) books of all shapes and sizes, movies, food, dancing, and taking walks around my favorite city.
I graduated from an independent college preparatory high school where I had years of involvement with some of the best teachers I could imagine. I took full advantage of them, studying AP European History, AP Environmental Science, AP French, Honors Physics, Honors Spanish, Animal Behavior, and Shakespeare. I attempt to re-create the smaller, relaxed, interactive environment I grew up in with my own students, because I believe it was the best possible place for learning. Comfort is key! I tutored students in grades 6-10 throughout high school in math, history, french, and Shakespeare.
I am the oldest sister of a pair of rather wily twins, and having to tutor them in everything under the sun I feel prepared to work with your individual learning style. While I personally am a big fan of hand-writing everything down when I need to remember it, I am very used to studying with people who need different things. I prefer to use discussion and more creative methods of allowing information to "stick" than just plain memorization, because everyone's mind is built to function differently (if you need a dance to remember the events of the French Revolution, so be it!). I made up many songs to remember long stems of information and am willing to help your child do the same. I always approach the opportunity to learn with enthusiasm, energy, and creativity, and have created some of the best relationships in my life by doing so. Allow me to do the same with your child!
