More On Theresa's Subjects:

  • elementary (k-6th)

I recently just tutored at an elementary school teaching students English. I was teaching 3rd and 4th grade students with reading comprehension and helping them with their reading. I also helped them with their vocabularies and test taking skills. I also had a Kindergarten student and I was helping her with Math. She was learning how to add and subtract, so I helped her with that. I had her draw out pictures and added or subtracted objects depending on what the question was asking. I also helped her with counting money. I had fake plastic money and had her differentiate between pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters and told her the different amounts of each coin. These students were very smart and picked up the concept really quick.

  • general computer

In 7th grade, I took a typing class and the teacher taught me how to type correctly with all ten fingers. From that day until now, I am still typing with all ten fingers the correct way. I am very literate in Microsoft Words and Microsoft Powerpoint. A lot of work that I do is on Words and Powerpoint. I have made several presentations on powerpoint and wrote tons of papers on Microsoft Words. There are so many things that a computer can do, but we just have to put the time out to really learn how to do it.

  • phonics

I have been tutoring in English for a couple of years now. I have had several elementary school students who were learning how to read. I had flashcards of the alphabet and would ask them to tell me what sound each letter makes. From there, when they have that down, I would ask them to connect letters together to sound out words. Students were able to sounds out words in a very short period of time.
