I have been teaching English as a Second Language (ESL) and Spanish for 18 years in Ellis County ISDs.
I have enjoyed tutoring the numerous students who have come in before or after school for extra help in my ESL and Spanish I, II and III classes.
I began learning Spanish with Spanish I in High School. I loved my Spanish class and my Spanish I teacher, but had to move schools after the 10th grade. In Spanish II, I had a different teacher for the first and second semesters, and I felt lost. Even though I made all A's and was exempt from my exams, I did not come away with an understanding of Spanish. Then, after a 4 1/2-years with no Spanish studies, I began studying Spanish again at UNT, having remembered practically nothing.
I graduated from UNT in 1988 with my Masters in Education, and passed my certifications in Secondary Education, Spanish, English and ESL. I improved my conversational skills in the school environment by chatting with Spanish-speaking parents and school personnel. I married a Spanish-speaker from Mexico, and have spoken Spanish for 8 years at home. Now I am very fluent in Spanish.
Besides being a teacher, I have attended Waxahachie Bible Church since 1988, and have worked with children for many years in the AWANA program there. I have also been involved at different times in several Spanish churches in the area.
I have the blessing of being the mother of two wonderful children, ages 5 & 7:
My son (5) was diagnosed with Pre-B ALL (Leukemia) in April 2007. Although he is now in remission, he will continue chemo through August 2010; hence my need to work from home. He loves cars, trucks, trains, kittens and babies.
My daughter (7) is proud of having made a doll-bed sized quilt by hand which she entered in a quilt show. She loves horses, cats, dogs, and in general, animals. She says that at school she wants to learn everything she can.
Let me know how I can help you!
