  The broad attributes that I believe are necessary to be an outstanding teacher/tutor are a passion for teaching, a love for children, and an enthusiasm for life-long learning. The specific skills that I believe are necessary to be an outstanding teacher and tutor are many. They include a sense of humor, patience, kindness, ongoing praise for children, consistency, organization, time management skills, subject competence, dependability, computer skills, writing skills, dedication, knowledge, the understanding that each child is learning at different levels and in different ways, the ability to communicate effectively with children and their parents/guardians, and the willingness to learn and try new techniques. Effective tutoring should use a great deal of strategies. These include technology, research, various extension activities, hands on learning, manipulatives, modeling, problems solving, discussions whereby children can talk, argue, and conjecture, listening to childrens’ needs, ideas, and problems, and feedback given to children on a very regular basis. My background includes education and training in Speech Pathology and Audiology, and Early Childhood Education as well as a total of eleven years employment as an Emotional Support and Learning Support Teacher. More recently, during my eight years of being a stay-at-home mom, I continued to remain active with children. This included volunteering at learning stations in several elementary classrooms, volunteering in the elementary school library, directing the Wee Church program and leading lessons in the Children’s ministry at my church.
