About Sarah:

I graduated in 2005 from the United States Naval Academy with a B.S. in Oceanography. I was then commissioned in the United States Air Force as a meteorological officer. I am currently enrolled in my master's degree program in Environmental Studies and have a teaching assistantship at the College of Charleston for Physics Labs. I swam collegitly for the Academy and represented the United States against Allied Forces in two championship meets abroad. I finished an Ironman triathlon endurance race in April of 2006. I am more naturally gifted in the humanities, but this is what makes me a good math/science tutor as well: I understand what it was like to struggle through a lot of the more technical and advanced science classes. I have spent the last 10 years coaching and instructing swimming; I love teaching, be it in the water or at a desk! My time management skills were excellent from competitive swimming and school schedules and only improved after I joined the military. I am well aware of the rigors of applying to college, taking the SATs, struggling through technical classes and learning a new sport. All of these rigors are rewarding if you accept the challenge!

More On Sarah's Subjects:

  • study skills

As a Division I collegiate athlete graduating with a B.S. in Oceanography from the United States Naval Academy, I was forced to develop efficient and effective study skills in order to succeed. I am very good at organizing my time and priorities and can assist predominantly in the arena of time management to maximize your studying. • swimming

I swam collegiately at the United States Naval Academy. I also represented the United States Air Force in two Allied Forces championship meets internationally. I am CPR/AED certified and spent the past summer at Golden Gateway Tennis and Swim Club coaching master's swim team practices, developing and implementing an aquatics program for a Kid's camp at ages 5-13 and teaching private swim lessons for all ages. I was a lifeguard through both high school and college and instructed many potential Navy special forces members on how to pass the swim portion of their screeners. I volunteer coached in Biloxi, Mississippi for the Surf Swim Club after Katrina disbanded the team for a season and volunteer coached for the University of Arizona triathlon team last fall. I completed an Ironman (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run) while in Arizona. I also led weekly swim training sessions for my squadron while I was in the Air Force. I love teaching all ages and levels of swimmers and non-swimmers how to reach their full potential and achieve their goals!
