As an undergraduate I majored in French and in history and was able to spend two semesters in Rouen, France. There I worked as an English tutor for two French siblings as well as living with a French family and taking courses. I have also traveled (and used my French!) in eastern Canada and in Senegal. I am a member of the Pi Delta Phi French honorary as well as the 2008 recipient of St. Lawrence University's French Writing Award. I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in French (with an emphasis on francophone culture and civilization) through Middlebury College.
I prefer a multi-directional approach to learning French: written practice as well as oral, and the use of games, movies, websites, and interactive activities in the target language to supplement the traditional classroom-based style. I believe this helps to reinforce vocabulary, create confidence in speaking a foreign language, and increase interest in the subject.
