About Kristen:

Hello! If you are looking for someone who can creatively find a way to work with you or your child, you've found me!

I've worked with children and young adults for most of my life, so I have a decent handle on what works, and what doesn't. I have a myriad of experiences from teaching overseas in Japan and Romania to working in inner-city schools here in Illinois. I know that different students have different needs.

I'm fun, practical, punctual, enthusiastic, and creative. I hope we can work together soon!

More On Kristen's Subjects:

  • Bible studies

I am a Christian, and have grown up under my mom and dad's counseling. It's been wonderful to see the growth that reading the Bible, praying, and talking to someone about my faith has brought personally. I feel like I have a purpose and a reason for life. Studying the Bible, and having a relationship has brought so much learning in my life from others, and introspectively. I really saw a lot of personal growth from my relationsip with Christ during the last two years of High School, and then as I entered college. I know that I would be a completely different person without my relationship with Christ.

  • drawing

Drawing and art is something that has always been a massive part of who I am. In high school, I worked hard to win awards at our local art festivals, and by the time I was a Senior, I had an independant study class with my Art teacher. I really respected her, and realize now that without a good art teacher, no student can trully master their work. When I began college, I was a little indignant that there was no way to skip the beginners drawing class. I was so thankful that I didn't! My teacher had studied for five years under a master artist in France, and revolutionized the way I approach art. I would love to share that with someone.

  • elementary (k-6th)

Teaching and being around younger children has always been such a huge part of who I am. I was a nanny for the last two years for younger children. I have an extreme amount of patience and creatively think of ways to help children problem-solve in areas taht they might find difficult. I am a good encourager, and know how to press on the right things to help kids understand something they didn't before.

  • ESL/ESOL

I have taught overseas in Japan and Romania over the last three summers. Being a foreigner in a foreign land, where I was the only person that didn't fully grasp the language really heped me understand what such a large percentage of our population faces when they immigrate here to the US. I am afraid that many people are not very helpful or patient with people who don't know English very well... and I also understand that speaking English is ESSSENTIAL to success. I would like to help equip people across age-groups learn English so they can fully participate in life here.

  • special needs

I worked in a home for profoundly handicapped adults for two years when I was in High School. That experience was invaluable for teaching me the sweetness and richness of relationships that can be had with people that have special needs. I understand the difficulties as well as the joys that come from learning new things, and love seeing small, hard-earned victories. There is something very very wonderful about seeing children or adults be able to accomplish things they've set out to do.
