I am primarily a field biologist who was shanghaied into a teaching lab. Teaching has taken me to three countries and I have taught from K thru undergrad. I am a constant student, always searching for new and better information and perspective. This has lead to my belief that Biology is not just the study and science of life, but the basis for all other sciences. The reason human beings utilize a base ten system of mathematics is simply because man was born with ten fingers. The biological imperative is the basis for human behavior and the source of the science of psychology. The science of engineering, whether it is electrical, civil, or mechanical is simply an attempt to replicate or improve on biological systems.
Biology cannot simply be taught from a text book. It must be placed into context and experienced, first hand. The simple bombardment of clinical and technical information has resulted in the dulling of the basic principle of the science, which is the study of life.
