About Samantha:

I am a recent graduate of Yale University, where I completed an undergraduate major in linguistics, summa cum laude. I am now happy to be back in my hometown of Quincy and taking the classes I need to enroll in a Master's program in book conservation. I love languages and have a knack for helping with the writing and editing process, and also have tutoring experience in GED math, algebra, geometry, chemistry, and ESL. For fun, I enjoy designing and sewing clothing, dancing, and playing games. I also love travel and am grateful that my experiences abroad, as well as in diverse educational and job settings, has taught me to get along with and work productively with many different types of people. My teaching style emphasizes the development of confidence and strategies that will enable the student to succeed independently; the best tutor is one who teaches herself out of a job!

More On Samantha's Subjects:

  • sewing

I have been sewing clothing for over seven years, ever since I took a class in high school. Since then I have worked on several different types of machines, and practiced altering patterns and working without a pattern. I am comfortable with many different kinds of fabric and am not afraid of details like button holes, boning, zippers, and lining. Over the years I have made costumes for plays in high school and college, clothing for myself and my family -- ranging from pajama pants to professional attire to a prom dress -- and pieces for several fashion shows at Yale.
