Every child can increase his or her academic performance, but may need different methods of instruction or support, from remediation, to extra practice, to enrichment. Some children may need the individual attention to help motivate them to succeed that is often absent in today’s crowded classrooms! I will work with you AND your child to determine what he or she needs to achieve success!
I am an EXPERIENCED, CERTIFIED and highly qualified teacher that has taught for the last 9 years third through fifth grade. In addition to my classroom experience, I have managed and served as a tutor in after school and summer tutoring programs. I have worked with a wide range of children from students with special needs to gifted and talented children, making me realize early in my career that children need to be respected for their individuality and taught to their current skills and needs. This includes their social and emotional needs!
I am available to tutor your child age 6-12, in your home and will consider all of these factors when working with your child!
It is important to assess your child to determine their current skills and needs and then set short term and long term goals, allowing your child to feel the joys of success! I would be happy to use school provided assessments as a starting point, or assess your child during their first tutoring session to help create a strategic plan of achievement. I am happy to use your child’s school curriculum as part of our plan, or I can bring materials help your child learn.
Subject available are:
*Reading -- comprehension, accuracy, fluency, vocabulary building
*Literature -- critical reading, thinking and analysis
*Writing -- process, product, grammar, syntax, punctuation, organization, editing and revising, and critical response
*Math (elementary) -- number sense, value, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, data and graphing, and (word) problem solving
*Social Studies -- geography and history
As a life long learner, my education includes: BA in English Literature, Writing and Psychology and a M.Ed. (instruction and curriculum) and other workshops and institutes to keep my skills current.
