About Alexander:

MEANINGFUL, LIFE-LIKE, and FUN! Do these words describe an ideal way to learn? (I can help you learn your subject while we have a little fun, too. Or, we can skip the fun stuff and get down to business.)

Welcome to my profile! I'm Alex. If you're reading this you want some help, or that added instruction to help you get that passing "C", solid "B", or the 'impress-your-parents' "A". Whatever your goal is (or your parents' goal), I may be able to help you, if you're ready to work hard, trust me, and put in the necessary time. (Practice leads you to improvement because we know that no one is perfect, right?)

Alex, what is your education? (I'm glad you're curious. Read the next section, or skip to the more interesting parts of my profile.)

I graduated from the University of Washington (GO HUSKIES!), earned a teaching certificate through Western Washington University, then a Masters in Education through Lesley University. I have taught 1st through 8th grades (substituting), 2nd grade (gifted education), and enjoy being a teacher volunteer at my church (ages 6-10). In the past I worked with kids, ages 6-14, as a camp counselor, too. (Yes, I know how to teach kids, AND have fun, too.)
(Are you ready to look at the more interesting parts of my profile?)

Hobbies: I enjoy hiking, sailing, reading, cooking, sports (basketball, tennis, volleyball, flag football, softball), going to movies, volunteering in the community, and hanging out with friends and family.

Teaching style(s): I prefer one-on-one, which is ideal for tutoring, and working with students in small groups. Working at a library, or community center, is a quiet environment for ideal learning. I want to get to know you and your interests. Trust is important to me.

I make learning meaningful, life-like, and fun, in case you forgot. I use real-world examples, humor, your interests, and promise to keep you engaged in the learning. (If needed, we'll both do jumping-jacks to stay awake. Just kidding.) You may want to walk away after each session knowing, "Whoa! This (fill in your subject need here) is easier and more fun to learn than I first thought! I can do this!"

Are you ready to put in the necessary time to learn? Are you ready to work hard? Are you willing to see how learning really can be meaningful, life-like, and fun?

Thank you for learning about me and how I could help you! I look forward to meeting you, and working with you.

More On Alexander's Subjects:

  • basketball

I played basketball from 1st grade through 8th grade. I learned the fundamentals of the bounce pass, chest pass, lay-up, foul shot, three-point shot, and the rules of the game. I also learned various defensive and offensive strategies, such as the full court press and a 2-1-2 offense or 2-3 offense. To help learn basketball I have played 5-on-5, "horse," "around the world", "21," and various other fun games that utilize fundamental skills. I have played pick-up basketball throughout high school and college. I have watched many college and professional basketball games.

I have a Masters in Education from Lesley University. I have taught elementary education for 5 years, both in private and public schools. I was a 2nd grade teacher for 4 years where I taught Reading, Writing, Vocabulary, Cursive, Geography, Science, Social skills, Social Studies, Math, and sometimes Spanish.
