About Seth:

I am a writer living in New York City. I currently work at a major men's magazine and my work has been published in several well known publications. I love the craft of writing and enjoy helping others to master it.

I have tutored city students before, helping them to pass their high school equivalency tests. Students benefit from the dedication I bring to tutoring and enjoy my laid back personality. I am patient and I won't get upset when you make mistakes. Trust me, I've made my share and I'm here to help you make less.

I graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. There I majored in journalism and philosophy. In my spare time, I play guitar, banjo and a little piano, and write poetry. I look forward to working with you.

More On Seth's Subjects:

  • general computer

The simple truth is that it's impossible to make it in today's world without knowing how to use a computer. However, that doesn't mean you need to be a master of the most complex programs on the computer. It is just important to master the fundamentals and grow comfortable with the technology. I have taught students with little or no exposure to computers how to do the basics: to set up an e-mail account, search the Internet and use basic office applications like Microsoft Word and Excel. I also show you how can you have a little fun with your computer. As a college student and now a writer at a major magazine, I have learned to type fast (80-90 words a minute), craft elaborate presentations on Excel and Powerpoint and design a website for my writing. As a teacher, I am laid back and patient. I am happy to go as slow or fast as you need and I won't get angry if you make mistakes.

  • guitar

I started playing guitar when I was 6 years old. For the next few years, I was taught classical guitar by a local musician. I learned to read music, play scales, to finger pick and to play each note with emotion. I have fond memories of impressing classmates and teachers in elementary school with my talent. But by the time I was 10 or 11, I stopped playing. The problem for me, and maybe for some of you, is to remain motivated to practice, to keep learning. While I enjoyed playing classical music in the beginning, mainly for the challenge, I wasn't interested in the music itself. Fast forward 5 years. A few friends of mine started a band. I watched them play a few times and once again I had that envious feeling, so I picked up my guitar. I'd like to tell you that playing an instrument is like riding a bicycle - you never forget. But that's not true. When I first picked up that guitar again, it was just an inanimate object. So I got a new teacher, this time focusing more on contemporary music. He taught me songs by bands I loved: Pink Floyd, the Beatles, Radiohead and many more. But he also forced me to relearn scales and master the technique. I've helped friends and students to follow through with their desire to learn the instrument. The most important thing is to overcome that voice in your head which says, "This is too hard." After that, it's all about finding the joy in practicing. As a teacher, I am patient and won't be upset when you make mistakes or forget to practice. But I will encourage you to improve and, most importantly, to enjoy.
