About Ella:

I believe my varied experiences have given me a wide range of resources to pull from when tutoring students. When I first received my credential back in 2000, I worked as a substitute teacher for Sonoma County. Since then, I have been teaching full time in various different grades, subjects and countries. I taught High School English and Science at a private school in Belize, Music in Carson City Nevada, Environmental Education in Grass Valley, Bishop and Redding, and a self contained multiple grade classroom in Romania. I have effectively taught all grades from K through 11th and all subjects in the past 8 years. This past summer I got married and moved to this area. My husband is a Deputy Sheriff and works odd hours, so I like to set my schedule around his. That still gives me plenty of time to work with students.

More On Ella's Subjects:

  • ballroom dancing

Is there anything more glorious then sweeping around the ballroom in a beautiful dress being led in a graceful flourish by your partner? I have found little that compares. I have been dancing my entire life. Ballet was my thing from when I was very young. As a young child, my mother could not keep me off my toes, so she enrolled my in a local ballet class. I kept up with that through high school and even started my own club in college to keep up the practice. Once I graduated and started teaching elementary full time, I decided to branch out a bit. I took my first ballroom dancing class. It was amazing! I, the proverbial ugly duckling, when it came to social situations, was finding myself the shining star. After a whole year of lessons, I moved from the area and had to pursue my dancing by teaching my High School students how to dance. We put on Christmas performances and school dances, taught local couples how to dance for weddings, and in general, started up a new fad in the area. I have since heard from some of those students. They went on to new schools and found the transition much smoother because they brought their dancing with them, even going on to teaching whole schools how to dance for banquets. Ever since that first ballroom class, I have sought out opportunities to dance. I have taken other classes, taught my own students and partners and even convinced my husband to take a turn on the floor when we got married. I am a huge advocate for ballroom dance for many reasons, personal and general. Dance can open a person’s horizon, help them adjust to change, give a since of self worth and be fun and exciting. I am so encouraged when I can be a part of any of these things.

  • elementary (k-6th)

I started teaching elementary school age when I was 13. My father and grandmother were both teachers while I was growing up, and I learned early that is where my gifting was. As soon as I was old enough, I began teaching swimming at a local pool and continued teaching Sunday school at my church. I had no questions as to what my major in college would be or whether or not I would contenue on to get my credential. In college, I signed on right away to become an after school tutor and participated in my college’s reading program. I developed and lead “Kid’s Club,” a once-a-week program for the local community. My student teaching gave me hands on experience in classrooms for the 1st and 6th grades. I went on to teach Jr High, High school and then finally Elementary. For the past five years I have been working with elementary age children in different capacities and have enjoyed every minute of it. The children are a joy to work with.
