My keen attention to detail, ability to multitask, superb organizational skills and determined attitude make me a strong candidate for the position to tutor your child.
I am a recent honors graduate of Hampton University, where I obtained a Bachelor's degree in Sociology with a Criminology emphasis. During my tenure at Hampton University, I was inducted into two National Honor Societies--Alpha Kappa Delta Sociology Honor Society and Alpha Phi Sigma Criminology Honor Society. In addition, I participated in a variety of organizations, and served as "Miss Sociology" (director of community service events within the Sociology Department) for the 2006-2007 school term.
Although a recent graduate, I am not a typical new graduate. I have a plethora of work experience. While in school, I supplemented my education by working as Student Research Assistant for an Endowed University Professor. As a Student Research Assistant, I intensely studied the issue of juvenile delinquency and the various factors that contributed to the ongoing societal problem: particularly the high rate of recidivism of minority juvenile delinquents. I also conducted focus groups and discussions concerning incarcerated women and the issues that plagued them both prior to and upon release from incarceration. During my senior year, I acted as an Intern for the City of Hampton's Public Defender Office under the supervision of their Mitigation Advocates. In this role, I assisted with preparation of materials to assist indigent individuals upon release from prison as well as assist with investigation tactics to aid in the argument of an individual's case. Concurrently, while at home on various school breaks, I was gainfully employed with NRI Legal staffing.
Currently, I am employed as a Family Support Worker for a Collaborative in NE Washington, DC serving the residents of Ward 7. In this capacity, I am required to perform Case Management for various families throughout the Ward to assist them in becoming self-sufficient once Collaborative services have ended. Additionally, I am called upon to provide behavioral modification management for Clients dependent upon diverse needs. I provide service coordination and operate in a social work capacity. I am required to promote development of community and fortifying a private cohesive partnership with Clients. Finally, I am proficient with client intake, interviewing and eligibility verification. I possess maturity and I am well equipped with the skills, and abilities to embark on a career journey that involves the duties of a Tutor. My passion for helping people, especially those in need, only furthers my desire to seek employment in a field that embodies that quality, particularly because, I am a product of an environment by which society's standards, I should have failed. Hopefully my ability to surpass limitations set upon me by society will encourage those from similar backgrounds to do the same.
Sincerely,
Nija
