About Wendolyn:

I have taught with the Memphis City Schools for thirty years. I have taught composition, literature, poetry, poetry analyzation, narrative writing, English, grammar, handwwrit-
ing, phonics and all elementary subjects. I am certified in grades 1-12 with emphasis is English and Speech. I am a writer of poetry since 1985. I have been published a couple of times and I also am in the process of writing a series of 12 children's books, six of which I have completed and illustrated. I am preparing a portfolio for my future interviews as a writer. As for poetry, I am gifted in that I can write the poems whenever called upon. I've known that I wanted to teach since I was 12 years old and I have never regreted it.I love children (I have three of my own and two grandsons) and I am a down-to-earth people person.

More On Wendolyn's Subjects:

  • elementary (k-6th)

I would like to tutor in the elementary subjects because I have taught them for twenty-seven years. I am a Highly Qualified Memphis City School Teacher and am in compliance with the No Child Left Behind Act. I love to teach reading and poetry. Being the creative person that I am, I enjoy using colorful pictures from magaazines and newspapers to enhance my reading lessons. It is important to introduce a new story by touching on any outside experiences that the students might have had. In addition to that, the children love to look at the pictures and ask questions. English, which would include poetry and poetry analysis, is a favorite as this was my minor in undergrad at University of Memphis. That is where I realized that I could analyze any poem. I was amazed at myself. Now that I am a real poet, I can even analyze my own. I love to write poems for certain lessons and take my students (usually fourth, fifth, and sixth) through the steps of analyzing a poem. I get very excited when I realize how successful they are after only a few lessons. I feel that learning to analyze a poem helps one to go through important thought processes to figure things out in life.
