About Paula:

I have an extensive background in reading instruction, including a Master's Degree in Language and Literacy Education as well as a Reading Specialist Credential. Additionally, I have significant experience teaching all subjects to diverse populations (including English Language Learners) in a literacy-rich elementary classroom. Beyond my education, I will work tirelessly to make sure that my students enjoy their educational experience. I always build upon a student's strengths - starting with what they know to build confidence and success and work from there. I also strive to reach students in multiple ways to make sure they access the material. I'm an effective tutor that wants your child to have fun while learning!

More On Paula's Subjects:

  • elementary (k-6th)

I have several years of successful elementary teaching under my belt, as well as individual and group tutoring experience with many different populations, including English Language Learners. I earned my teaching credential in California and relocated to Maine this past year. In addition to my multiple-subject elementary credential, I also have a Reading Specialist Credential and a Master's Degree in Literacy Education. I consider myself to be an expert in teaching reading, which (in my opinion) is the foundation to success in all other subjects as well. I have a proven track record of successful learning with my students, always building on their strengths and making sure they are enjoying their learning experience as we go along. I also like to teach to different modalities, as all students learn differently and understand things in various ways. The more ways to illustrate a point, the deeper the understanding. Above all, it is important that learning be fun! If the right relationship is in place and the proper methods are being used, then it is a win-win for everyone!
