My name is Vanessa, and I am a French and ESL teacher. I believe that everyone is smart in their own unique way, and that we all have different ways of learning. I also believe in hard work, and trying your best, even if that sometimes means you will not get that A, but it’s still your best work. Sometimes we try really hard, and still do not get there. However, I can help you raise your grade and develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of learning. I know that sometimes those subjects we find the most difficult, become our favorites!
I have worked one on one and in small groups with students who need help with their reading and writing in both English and French. I am also very good at organization and I have assisted students with prioritizing long-term projects and homework.
I am a career changer who used to work in both global and domestic advertising, while living in San Francisco, CA. I lived out there for eight years as I also went to business school and got an MBA in International Marketing with French. I decided to become a teacher, when I moved back to NYC, and I went to the one year MA program at NYU’s Steinhardt School and received an MA in teaching French 7-12 and TESOL K-12. I am NYS certified in both these subjects as well.
Last year I filled a maternity leave position as a sixth grade teacher at PS 184 (Shuang Wen), for Humanities and Ancient History, as well as teaching ELA prep. Ancient History has always been a side interest of mine, and I used mythology and stories to enhance the learning experience of my students. I had a strong relationship with my students, and I have remained in touch with some of them. They made great strides while I was with them, and I was so proud of their success and the “go getter” attitude many of them developed in some of their final projects.
I look forward to meeting you and working together!
