About Charlee:

Hello,

My name is Charlee, I'm a young female engineer, who loves to mentor peers and youth to follow their dreams. I have experience tutoring, from my undergraduate and graduate school years. Math, science, and music (I play clarinet!) is fun, especially when you can understand the "languages" each speak. I love to share and help others find the "language" that can help them excel in their studies! I love utilizing real world examples and applications to help students and peers process subject areas--especially those that seem abstract and "useless" to them at the time.
I complete my Ph.D in Materials Science and Engineering in 2009. I look forward to meeting with you and we can tackle the world, one subject, one problem at a time :-)

I truly, truly enjoy playing the Clarinet and consider it one of the more enjoyable instruments due to its four octaves, which is uncommon in most instruments. I consider myself a moderately intermediate Clarinet player. I would say I am advanced, because I have played the Clarinet consistently for 8 years, but I have had to put it down for a couple of years. I have recently begun playing again, and I have easily been able to help my husband learn to play the guitar without any official teaching, because I could teach him notes and scales, and songs that I knew from playing the Clarinet. We now love to “jam” together! My credentials on this instrument include, 4 years in Symphonic band in high school, audition and accepted all 4 years into All-County Symphonic band. I played 4 years successfully in Marching band. I have "superior" and "excellent" ratings in solo and small woodwind ensemble competitions. I was inducted into a brigade, which is an elite small marching group where I was privileged to play a Marimba. In addition to this, I learned and played Bass Clarinet also for Symphonic band (truly a joy!) I still can recall and play more than half of the major scales by heart, and can hear notes by ear. I have the chromatic scale memorized (forever! it's my favorite scale). I have memorized various pieces of music from performances in the past. I also understand the importance of having correct embouchure and posture at all times to keep a good steady sound. I can teach review basics such as keeping tempo, reading, learning and memorizing music, tricks to learning major or minor scales, harnessing an ear for self-tuning, and more. It would be a great pleasure to tutor and have musical fun with a student with this instrument! :-)
