I am an American, who as a teenager attended high school in Taiwan at the Taipei American School. It was here that I was introduced to the Chinese language and culture.
After returning to the States and graduating university, I worked in California for Foxconn a company with factories in Taiwan. My duties involved marketing connectors on the East Coast, interfacing with the Taiwan factories, and modifying computer programs to enhance our company's growth.
In 1990, I returned to Taiwan as a Business English teacher and educational consultant for English Language Schools International (ELSI.) During this time, I took a year-long sabbatical as a Human Resource Trainer for Le Meridian Hotel in Phuket, Thailand. Two years later, Actual Living English (ALE) hired me to open an office in central Taiwan (Taichung), where I was the Director of Services for the next six years. I was responsible for the operation and growth of this division, which included the responsibilities of opening and managing a facility for members, three full-time office staff and over twenty-five consultants. Also, I liaised with the sales department, not only to improve sales, but also to assist new members make a smooth transition into our program.
In 1999, Williams Enterprise Services hired me as director of their Business English program in Taichung. As director, I was in charge of sales and education for the company. I developed the syllabi and trained the consultants for the courses we taught at major hotels, computer companies and various manufacturing facilities throughout central Taiwan. In addition, I led a team of sales people in developing new clients for our organization.
While working for Williams, I met my wife who was from Thailand. After the birth of our son we decided to move to Thailand to be near her family. Currently, I am teaching Science in a bi-lingual program, at one of the largest private schools in Bangkok, but will move back to America with my family at the end of the present school term which ends in March.
