I have been tutoring for many years for everyone from pre-kindergarden to College level corses. I was the coordinator for an education center until relocation of my family caused me to give up the job. There I worked with elevn school districts and was a part of several IEP teams.
The best reference I received was from one of the student's teachers asking to meet with me because I had taken one of her second-grade students that was failing and within two weeks, he was at the top of the class. When she came into the center her words were: "now I have my answers. You were teaching students since before you were in my second grade class. It was in your permanent records that you were to be seated among students needing the extra help and you would take care of three or four of them while I took care of three or four on the other side of the room."
I evaluate my students to see where they are at, then I try to fill in the gaps that seem to be missing. I stay with one or two concepts until those are learned and then proceed to the next. If I find that one technique does not work, then I try another until I find what helps the student to learn the best. I never give up on any child.
