About Clara:

My name is Vicky and I have two school age girls. I have worked with them at home during their younger years to prepare them for school as well as tutored in the past child in elementary grade where they needed some further help in understanding certain subjects. I have worked with children in helping them learn their abc's and counting to simple addiction and division problems.
I enjoy helping out children and helping them to become a better student. While helping them to become better students, I also teach them how to develop better study skills as I have learned while attending Indiana Wesleyan University currently myself. I am trying to help even my children to develop better study habits by being a role model for them in my studies. I believe children learn by modeling what other do so I make sure that I am doing the right type of modeling. Thank you

More On Clara's Subjects:

  • elementary (k-6th)

I have worked with this grade level before especially since I have two girls that are now in second and third grade. I have volunteers in my daughters kindergarten class in helping children finish up school work that they did not get done the day before. For subjects like math, I use fun objects to demonstrate with and then I use fun rewards, such as sticker and pencils, etc... for work well done. I know that some students are visual and being visual myself, I understand the need that this children have to see the tasks in order to work it. I do not do the work for the student but let and give the student a chance to prove to themselves that they can do the work and my reward is the expression on their faces when they get the task right and fully completed. As mentioned before, I am currently working with my girls with their school work after school and I have seen a big difference already and school has just started.

  • study skills

I am currently attending Indiana Wesleyan University and the first class that I took was how to start off good with good study habits. In my process of tutoring the child, I will help them to establish good study habits and how to go about keeping them. I know for me it took some getting use to, but it will pay off for the student in the long run and this habits that the students will develop will become so natural that they will carry over even through high school and on through college.
