About Lauren:

When love and skill combine, the best things happen. I love children and people as well as the teaching-learning process. I also believe that people learn best in a comfortable, caring environment, and so I am patient with and interested in getting to know my students. Experiencing concepts through multiple senses and modalities is important and I will use creative instruction as much as possible. My tutoring/teaching method is supported by research; I will graduate in the spring with a degree in early childhood and elementary education. I have tutored a great deal, from kindergarten readiness to high school math and English, to helping my friends in college. I also work in a curriculum center and am familiar with a lot of manipulatives and research, and have access to fun things. Before this job, I have been a lifeguard, assistant teacher, childcare worker, and swimming instructor.

More On Lauren's Subjects:

  • special needs

I have the dispositions, knowledge, and skills necessary to work with children or adults with special needs. I am patient and nurturing, and will persevere and try creative approaches to help anyone learn and master concepts. Since everyone's needs, strengths, and interests are different, I always determine how to present information, instruct students, and assess learning for each individual. Additionally, I do know some strategies and specifics for working with people with certain disabilities, delays, or other differences. I will graduate in the spring with a dual education degree and have had special education courses integrated into my studies. I have also personally worked with children with various disorders and disabilities. For example, I taught swimming to a child with MR and health issues, and his success and joy was very rewarding to me. A student in my classroom last semester had Autism Spectrum Disorder, and I helped him with schoolwork. I am very interested in working with children with special needs and would like to pursue a career in early intervention.
