About Renee:

It may be hard to believe, but learning can be fun! I have a passion for making the educational process engaging, interactive and enlightening. Of course, you have to do your part also. But I can guide you as you jump into something perhaps you never thought you would understand, and gain mastery over it.

I have over 15 years of classroom experience, as well as one on one tutoring. Before that, I worked with an international humanization organization, documenting their activity all over the world. I've lived and worked in Canada, Germany and Russia. I enjoy meeting new cultures and exploring the things that link us tougher as humans. I also work as a marketing consultant with an international company, helping them maximize their resources by linking customers to clients.

I am convinced there are no topics out there that can't be taught in a way that you can learn from. Think history is dry? You're living it right now! Look at Philosophy as something doesn't apply to you? Not so! Critical thinking is something we engage in everyday....MacDonald's or KFC?

Whether or not we recognize it, everyday life is a learning experience. As your tutor, I can help you get the most you can out of whatever subject we are working on together. I look forward to the challenge!

More On Renee's Subjects:

  • Bible studies

I have extensive Bible study knowledge through decades of personal study, as well as Bible college (Trinity Western) in Langley, BC, Canada. I am half Assyrian, a county mentioned in Genesis 2:14, and I was raised with the rich heritage of being a middle eastern Christian. I have led Bible studies, informational groups, as well as questions and answer sessions both in the context of my church, and individually. However, I am very open-minded and sensitive that there are many ways to look at scripture and realize that the ultimate interpretation is up to the individual.

  • business

I have been involved with my own business since 1993. My MA and my experience in marketing, communication, public relations and new product introduction has helped me develop a deep appreciation for all the aspects of the business world. At the college level I have taught effective business communications including both written and oral presentations. If you are not a good communicator in the business world and don't have a deep understanding of the supply and demand for your product, all the things that go into staffing, hiring, dealing with vendors, governmental regulators, etc, you will not be as successful as you could potentially be. I like to start with an idea, look a the viability of that concept and built from there. I am currently working in a new product introduction that utilizes new technology to solve an old problem....I can't say too much else right now without breaking my confidentially clause! All in all, I enjoy business and exploring new ways to solve problems. And make some money along the way!

  • sight singing

Sight seeing can be more than just strolling down a cobblestone street, a camera around your neck and a guide book in your hand. I feel the best way to get them most out of your trip, be it in your own state or another country, is to get an idea of the things you want to see and experience. Look up the local events and history of the area. Is there a fair, or festival that will give you the true flavor of the place? When traveling overseers, try to get away form the tourist traps. Ask around for local hangouts, restaurants, pubs and even specialty museums so that you can see what life is really like in that region. My favorite trips have always been the ones where I get to go to a local's home, or go to the market with them and see how and where they shop, prepare their meals, spend time with their families, etc. There are always special places that someone in an area will want to share with you, from the local cemetery to a new yogurt shop.

  • study skills

I love the fact that over the last 15 years as an instructor, I have actually learned how to study more effectively. I have learned and taught such tangible aspects of studying such as effective time management, study skills and resources allocation. By practical steps such as actually writing out your schedule on a daily bases to see where your time goes, to simple tests that help you figure out your peak hours of learning, to learning to say NO to things that aren't important or are going to help YOU achieve your goals, there are many techniques when learning to be a great student. I know I work better when I have a special goal and some fun time scheduled. I will work hard towards a reward. Some people love to work under pressure, though in a study group setting that can really upset the team dynamics and needs to be properly addressed. Learning to learn can be one of the most freeing aspects in being the best student possible!

  • video production

I worked in video production for 12 years, and have taught many film courses over the last 10. From the perceives romantic idea of just grabbing a camera and magically putting something of viewing pleasure together, I understand all the parts that go into making an effective final product, from the pre-production and planning, writing story boarding, location scouting and securing, permits if needed, actors, crews, food, etc. Then, there is the joy of post production and putting it all together the right way, the marketing of it if this is a commercial piece, the duplication of the video, the designs of the case and it's cover. Production is a huge industry with a bevy of ways to be involved. It is a very fun one if that is your passion!
