In the seven years of varied work experience, nothing has satisfied me more than being able to help a struggling child with difficult tasks they are working on. I have worked as a market research analyst, manager, stock broker, owned my own business and as a teacher. I gained the greatest satisfaction from teaching even though it was as a volunteer. Touching more lives, affecting the outcome of so many futures a teacher is the epitome of a leader. Just as a leader has his or her own style, their way of motivating their students; also plays an important part in a student’s success. Spending more time with the children than most parents do, a teacher is fundamental in shaping their lives. If there are poor leaders it is the children who suffer. When we shine as leaders the children blossom and the universe is wide open to them.
I believe that the most vital work anyone can do is to help increase economic and social prosperity in order to promote and engender peace and security. I have always wanted to work to improve the living conditions of disadvantaged people and be actively involved in humanitarian activities. Immediately after graduating with my first degree, I worked on a UNHCR (United Nations High Commission of refugees) project. The project was running a rehabilitation center with a workshop that produced prosthesis (artificial limbs) for 65 refugees. I was responsible for refugee care from arrival through departure to their respective camps. Thereafter, I wanted to continue serving those in need and thus whatever designations engendered, I still volunteered with substance abuse patients at a local hospital.
I am a graduate from Fordham Graduate School of Business where I was a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) student majoring in Marketing and Information Technology & Communications systems. I decided to pursue an MBA in order to acquire skills critical in today's world, whether in the private or public sector. My degree complements the work experience I already have, enriching my understanding of the private sector, and given me insight into ways in which private sector methods can enhance the work of the public sector. I graduated with my Bachlor's from Kings College London.
I have over seven years of invaluable work experience and was involved in extensive business development tasks, strategic planning and implementation. As a co-owner at Inmar Limited, I implemented strategies that increased revenues by 52%. I was promoted within the marketing department at Dyer and Blair Ltd, a top stock broking firm after reaching record breaking sales when launching the initial public offering of Kenya Airways shares. I believe my managerial skills can be applied to teaching to achieve better results. Skills that I gained throughout my educational and work experiences that can be effectively applied to teaching include organizational class room management, multitasking, motivating students including reinforcing and reiterating expectations for positive behavior, monitoring student progress, orienting the classroom experience toward improvement and growth and formulating instruction plans. With my analytical and human resource management experience, I am able to recognize areas of personal strengths and weaknesses use reflection to improve teaching and set high expectations for personal classroom performance. I plan to create a supportive, fun and warm classroom climate. My multilingual abilities will enable me to make the class more interesting and I plan to maintain attention by enlightening the students about the cultures in various countries I have visited and lived in. These include China, Hong Kong, Singapore, England, Brunei, Kenya, Holland, Denmark, Lebanon, Jordan, India, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, South Africa, Tanzania, Syria, France, Netherlands and the United States.
Any accomplishment needs hard work which in turn which is driven by motivation. A good teacher is a passionate teacher and a passionate teacher knows how to motivate his or her students. When we remember the best teachers we had, they are those who were devoted to serving humanity. Good teaching is about caring, nurturing, and developing minds and talents. It is about listening, questioning, being responsive, and remembering that each student and class is different, eliciting responses and developing the oral communication skills of the quiet students. Whilst pushing students to excel, at the same time, teaching is about being human, respecting others, and being professional at all times. By treating students as consumers of knowledge a great teacher leaves the ivory tower and immerses oneself in the field, talking to, consulting with, and assisting students and practitioners, and liaisoning with their communities. I bring a high sense of commitment and morale to my work as a teacher.
