No question is a bad question. Students should be encouraged to ask questions and feel comfortable repeatedly asking, if necessary, until they receive an answer that works for them. Not every student understands subjects the same way and the freedom and comfort to state "I dont understand" can be as important as "I get it".
As an undergraduate at Lehigh University, I was an apprentice teacher in a small business development class, encouraging business students to think outside the box and develop strategies and techniques that worked for them based on the clients needs. I also was a member of Best Buddies, a big brother/big sister-like organization which paired special needs students with local college students to help build confidence in learning and relationships. Working with my special needs "buddy" helped me develop the patience and effective strategies needed to help a wide range of students, from those students feeling discouraged and frustrated in the classroom to those who excel and are looking to further improve their skills.
As a law student in Washington, D.C., I was in charge of the Moot Court trials team and ran a class instructing students on various legal subjects. Even in my every day job as an attorney it is apparent how important the freedom to question and re-question can be. Teaching is as much about learning the subject matter as it is about developing learning techniques and strategies based on the individual students needs. I work to make sure that, at the end of the day, the student "gets it" and can feel confident in both their answers and their questions.
