Hello! My name is Jonathan. I, however, prefer the simple, "Jon".
I graduated from El Capitan HS in 2007 with just shy of a 3.5 overall GPA. This was not from laziness or bad study habits, but due to my love of challenges. I took AP (Advanced Placement) classes. Basically, they're college-level classes taught in a high school setting. I took (and passed) the following AP courses: English Composition, English Literature, U.S. History, Government, and Music Theory.
Speaking of music, I have been playing the Trumpet for almost a decade now. I have performed in the GUHSD Honor Band for two consecutive years and was chosen to perform with the California All-State Band in 2007. I currently play in my church orchestra (Sonrise Community Church) on Saturday nights and Sunday mornings.
I am currently attending Grossmont Community College. My major is English and I, someday, hope to teach professionally. My goal is high school English. I have completed one year of college thus far. I am well-versed in all forms of writing. Poetry, however, is my forte.
I was employed with the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District from January to June of 2008. I worked at Spring Valley Elementary School as a Reading Specialist. I am great with students of all ages and establish a comfortable learning environment quickly.
I do not like to just tell students the answers and make them memorize data (though there just isn't any getting around it sometimes). I like to employ the Socratic method of learning. This is a method engineered by the great Socrates himself. It is a series of questions asked in order to generate thought and to, ultimately, lead the student to the answer. They, therefore, have obtained the desired knowledge and, also, have learned HOW they obtained it and why it is so.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I look forward to enriching you or your student's knowledge and learning.
