About Amanda:

Hello, I am very interested in tutoring in various subjects. I am a graduate from Southern Methodist University with a degree in Art History. I recently worked at Nature's Classroom where I taught 1-6 graders such hands on classes as the physics behind juggling, Gyotaku, (Japanese fishprinting and fish anatomy)Yoga, Aquatic Insects, among many more. Our goal was to provide a fun learning environment. I also have three books of poetry published with a fourth in the process. I have done poetry readings at libraries, high schools, and art galleries so I am very qualified for the Language Arts. My major at Southern Methodist University was Art History. There I perfected my writing skills with numerous essays. I also played Division 1 soccer in college as a goalie. We traveled all over the United States to Hawaii, California, Nevada, and more. I have coached soccer and provided private goalie lessons. I was an English tutor in Spain for the InterExchange Program during 2006. I also worked at an After School Program for the school year of 2005-2006. I have strong computer skills and now work as para-educator in Colchester VT.

  • elementary (k-6th)

One of my first jobs out of college was working at City Kids in Burlington, VT. There, I worked with grades k-6. We went on field trips, I organized craft projects, we did physical education, and I assisted with homework. My next job was Nature's Classrrom where I taught grades 1-6 outdoor education. Different schools would come each week and we would offer an array of hands on classes. I taught the physics behind juggling, Wood Words (Language Arts in the woods), Newton's laws of motion through a bouncy ball class, CSI, and Gyutaku (Japanes fish printing) among many more exciting classes. I also have coached basketball and soccer for these grades. And I am also planning on going to school for a master's in education for elementary education.

  • soccer

I have been playing soccer since I was in kindergarten. I quickly landed on goalie as my position. I made the Varsity team at my high school, Burr and Burton Academy, my freshman year. I was captain senior year and my team won 3 division 2 women's championships. I was recruited by Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas where I earned full scholarships for my last two years and 65% scholarship my sophomore year. I played side by side with Erin McLeod who is now the women's Canadian National Team's starting goalie. I earned team captain my senior year. Our team made it to the NCAA tournament every year I was there, finishing in the top 25 in the nation for division 1 soccer. We won 1st place in the Western Athletic Conference all four years I was there. I received All WAC conference and a nod for my region. My team played the Brazilian National Team and Mexico. I played Natasha Kai, (now on the USA Women's National Team) several times. I have coached private goalie lessons to students of all ages. I also have provided goalie clinics I organized on my own.

  • special needs

Straight out of college I worked for Howard Community Services, an organization in VT. that taylors to people with special needs. There I worked at residential houses and with a one-on-one client. I provided community outreach such as art classes, fitness, and common errands. I also taught basic skills such as cooking. I then went to Nature's Classroom where I taught a different school outdoor education each week. There, I worked with many students with various special needs. Now I work as a para-educator at Colchester High School. I offer a student one-on-one community support, lifeskill training, and reading and writing skills.

  • yoga

I began Yoga in College as a way to improve my flexibility and breathing for my soccer goalie position at a division 1 school. This soon became a passion that releived stress and improved posture. I studied yoga with friends and through numerous videos that I performed daily. At my last job, Nature's Classroom I taught a class called: The Science Behind Yoga. I went over the respiratory system, and all the things in the body that yoga helps with. I also went over the history of yoga and I performed one hour classes with students ranging from 1st to sixth grade. I am an avid fan of Kathy Smith and the Living Arts Programs. I teach beginning/intermediate yoga with some arobic yoga and pilates.
