I'm Jennifer, an experienced, intelligent, friendly and compassionate writing and ESL teacher. I am currently a writing tutor at Penn State University's writing center, at the Brandywine campus in Media, PA. I taught academic writing to college undergraduates at UC San Diego for almost 3 years. I have counseled 100s of students in academic writing and have graded 100s of papers, in which I evaluated both students' writing errors, what they were doing right and how they could write at the next level. I also taught undergrads critical thinking, analyzing texts, how to do research papers, primary and secondary sources, taking effective lecture notes and avoiding plagiarism.
In addition, I have taught and tutored ESL to students of all different ages, ethnic and financial backgrounds for 2+ years, including for one year in Warsaw, Poland (2000-2001.) I earned a TEFL Certificate at UCLA before I went to Poland.
Long ago, when I was a student at UC Davis, I tutored for the Upward Bound program, which helped and encouraged high school students from low-income backgrounds to go to college. I tutored students in all high school subjects.
I have an M.A. in Russian Area Studies from Georgetown University, extensive experience living and working overseas and in multiethnic environments and I care about my students. I look forward to working with you!
