About Wael:

In addition to being a certified substitute teacher (Arabic, English, ESL) and soon to be certified attendance teacher for the New York City Board of Education, I am an independent tutor of Arabic and English and a interpreter of Arabic in City of New York Civil Court. In addition to being a native speaker and educated in Arabic, I hold a degree in English and American Literature from Hofstra University, where I was a teaching assistant in Arabic for the Department of Comparative Literature and Languages, I was a tutor in English for the English Language Program(ELP), teaching English language skills to non-native speaking students entering Hofstra University. I am versed in all types of Arabic, colloquial and classical and I can explain what I teach because my English-language and Arabic-language skills are first-rate based on experience and educational backgrounds.

More On Wael's Subjects:

  • Arabic

I am a native of Alexandria, Egypt and attended schools that trained me in Arabic grammar, language, and literature. I have studied English grammar, morphology, literature and criticism from a young age in American schools; Lycee Liberte, and Alexandria University, Egypt for three years, where I was a major in English and American Literature. I transferred to Hofstra University, where I completed my BA degree in English and American literature and minored in World literature. My capability in both languages is attested by the work I have done since graduating from Hofstra University in 2006, as well as the teaching and tutoring I had done as part of the University tutoring program while I was an employed student at Hofstra. I also substitute teach English and ESL for the Board of Education (Common Branches)and plan to pursue a Master's Degree in Languages and Literature. I have expertise, as well, in the culture of the Middle East and have taken courses on the three monotheistic religions to enhance my cultural knowledge. I am capable of introducing any aspect of Middle Eastern culture related to Arabic. I am patient with students and I have the rare capability of explaining grammar in English or Arabic. The language program at Alexandria University was based on the British model (Cambridge University) with its traditional emphasis on grammar, syntax, rhetoric, historical background to literature. I feel I am personable. I am also a Middle-Eastern percussionist and feel that music also allows me to be "upbeat" in my view of the world and hopeful about the value of education, particularly in language, the basis of communication. The more languages one knows and knows well, the more power he or she has in the world. For those students who need help in writing, interpreting, learning Arabic or English, I am your man.
