First, I would like to offer you a cordial welcome to my site! One of my primary skills is to utilize my positive attitude to vastly improve your enthusiasm to learn. I did that for my own son, who I home schooled from age four through 10, and two of my ex's sons, who I taught for three of those years. While my son was just one of 33 who graduated Summa Cum Laude out of 429 in his 2008 high school class, I improved his two brothers from being mostly low-C and D-students, to B students upon their return to middle school and junior high. In addition, I subbed for the Pattonville School District, and was extremely effective when I was also asked to tutor. Like most people, I am far more effective one-on-one and in small groups.
My primary teaching strengths were in combining reading, phonics, spelling, english and writing, although I can tutor well in any of those areas separately. Math is another area of great proficiency...except for geometry...until one reaches Calculus. As an oft-published writer in several subject areas, I could vastly improve anyone's writing abilities!
As a tutor, what I primarily excel in is breaking down material into its simplest forms, being patient, and not moving forward until a strong level of proficiency is achieved. I have a lot of positive energy, and strongly believe I can also instill that in any child. After all, attitude is important in taking on any task or challenge.
Educationally speaking, I have a Bachelor of Science degree in business from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. My minors are in Journalism-Publications and English, which also included the University of Missouri in Columbia.
In addition to teaching, I spent 17 years covering high school and a variety of youth sports for the West County Journals, conducting several one-on-one interviews. Plus, I helped out a great deal with Scouts, and also planned and carried out several children's plays, puppet shows, a Wacky Olympics and parties. You would also be interested in reading some of my children's stories...like "The Peanut Butter Kid!"
I really look forward to hearing from you!
Thanks so much!
