About Kishasha:

I have been successfully teaching students of all ages for more than 2 decades.

With a working knowledge of American sign language for the deaf (ASL), I am particularly proficient with individuals who have learning differences or disabilities. I work well with children or adults learning to speak, read, and write English for the first time or who simple want to improve these skills in order to a pass tests.

My personal time is spent playing both the violin and viola. I can help anyone improve their performance ability on either instrument.

More On Kishasha's Subjects:

  • elementary (k-6th)

Adjusting to a new school and the classroom environment can be a challenge for children in the elementary grades. A solid foundation in Basic Arithmetic and early reading and writing skills is needed in order for a child to fully develop the social skills learned during their the formative years Lessons not learned well can lead to academic difficulty later on.

  • ESL/ESOL

I began my work with speakers of other languages at a Job Corps in New York. I then became certified as a Literacy Volunteer where I helped adults gain proficiency in their English reading and writing skills. I have a bachelors degree in speech and communication and a masters degree in Health Arts and Sciences. I have more than 2 decades of classroom teaching experience with students from diverse cultural backgrounds.

  • sign language

I have a bachelors degree in speech and communication. During those studies I began learning to communicate in American Sign Language for the Deaf. I use ASL extensively in the classroom with students who are diagnosed as non-verbal or hearing impaired.

  • special needs

I am trained in ABA learning. I use a music-based auditory program at 3 locations to teach combined population of 280 children (2.5 to 21 years old) with autism, pervasive developmental delay, ADHD, mental retardation, cerebral palsy and other learning differences. I have a bachelors degree in Speech and Communication and am a certified Auditory Integration Therapist. My masters degree is in Health Arts and Sciences. I am proficient in American Sign Language for the Deaf (ASL).

  • study skills

During my more than 2 decades as a teacher I have developed many techniques to improve study skills. Many are listening based and utilize ear training. Some of these skills teach the learner to relax and prepare the mind and body to receive new information and to retain previously learned information.

  • violin

As a young violist I had the great joy of performing on the stage of both Carnegie Hall and at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fischer Hall. At that time I performed under the baton of young conductors who today stand as maestros conducting international orchestras of renown. I play viola with several community ensembles and teach string players who are starting their studies on the violin and viola. I stress technique, intonation and musicianship.
