About Alison:

Hi! My name is Alison, and I am a graduate of California State University, Fullerton. I hold CBEST certification, which allows me to substitute teach for grades k-12. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in communications, with a concentration in public relations, and a minor in public administration. A large portion of the communications curriculum focuses on writing and journalism, and I therefore received LOTS of instruction in this area. As a result, I possess a wealth of knowledge regarding writing format, punctuation, style, rules of grammar, structure, and word usage. I have often been the "go-to" girl for writing questions both in my previous jobs and in social situations. I can always pick out errors in writing (and speaking) and greatly enjoy helping others improve their writing ability. However, this does not mean that I don't enjoy math as well!

I was fortunate enough to be a good math student. As a junior in high school, I took calculus AP. I will not claim to remember most of what I learned in that class at this point in my life, but I am absolutely comfortable tutoring math up through a pre-algebra level. I have helped people of all ages with their math and very much enjoy explaining things to people in a way that makes sense, because I know that it can be quite confusing at first. And now, my favorite subject of all: music.

I took piano lessons for ten years, and although I did not always enjoy practicing, I am now incredible happy that I stuck with it, as I enjoy being able to just sit down and play, and help others do the same. As a piano student, I also received instruction in music theory, and passed the highest level of the Music Teachers Association of California Certificate of Merit exam, an exam that tests students' ability in music theory, sight reading, ear training, and performance (of several memorized pieces). I have taught piano and had very successful students, and would love add you to the list!

I really enjoy working with people, and especially love helping and teaching. I love to have fun, but I know how to get the job done while doing so, and would love the opportunity to make learning fun for you!
