I am currently a graduate student at UTSA, set to graduate in December 2008 with a master's degree in math education. Previously, I taught high school algebra I, algebra II, and geometry for 10 years (I also taught biology for 5 years, one year during which I taught both math and biology).
With respect to math education, my philosophy for teaching and learning is simple: proficiency in mathematics requires much practice and much patience. I put this into practice by: (1) helping a student examine a concept until its meaning is understood abstractly; (2) tying the concept to related concepts in order to understand the big picture; (3) having a student practice many specific examples of the concept. This is, generally, the same method I've used to learn mathematics myself and I've been successful with it.
