More On Lisa's Subjects:

  • elementary (k-6th)

I have passed the State exam for Elementary Education. I currently work full-time for the School Board of Broward County and for the past five years as a volunteer at Virginia Shuman Young Elementary School as program coordinator, chairperson, and classroom teacher of the Meet the Masters Fine Arts Appreciation Program. I am also the originator and coordinator of Arts Alive, the school's grand finale multi-discipline arts event each year. I have authored the Multicultural Art curriculum (4 & 5th grade) for the Meet the Masters program, as well as a childrens' book that is popular with Pre-K through 3rd grade students. I have also substitute taught there and at various other schools around Broward County. I completed many in-service training courses within the School Board's teacher training system. Classroom and student instruction courses include: Behavior Management, Instructional Delivery, CHAMPS Classroom Procedures, Safety Procedures, and Child Abuse Awareness. Other courses I have taken which target elementary grade students include: Art for the Primary Child, Art & Beyond, How Living Things Interact with Their Environment, and Earth Processes: Elementary. In addition, I have taken many secondary level teacher training courses. I have been a trained and active Cub Scout Den Leader for a total of 8 and a half years. I have taken many training sessions through Boy Scouts of America, such as Youth Protection & Safety, Behavior Management, and Children with Special Needs, in order to better serve my scouts who were mostly ESE (exceptional ed) and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactive disorder) children. I also coached Little League baseball and soccer for several years. I am a fellow and teaching member of the Pangea Institute, a non-profit educational organization, that does scientific research, family field trips, and educational courses and exhibits. I am also a teaching member of Leave No Trace, a non-profit environmental organization for educating youth about conservation and stewardship of the environment. I am a devoted parent of three boys, one gifted technology child, one scientist-artist, and one sports enthusiast. I am known among my colleagues, family, and friends as a brainstormer and innovator who is a "big kid at heart" because I prefer to get down with the kids and play and relate to them about what they care about.

  • general computer

General Computer: I have been using various types of computers since the late 1970's, ranging from mainframe Unix systems on up to Palmtops (handheld) at present. I have been employed full-time in Computer-Aided Design & Drafting (CADD) since 1984. My current computer skills consist of primarily Windows-based PC, but I am familiar with the Apple Mac operating system. I use Microsoft Office: Word (word-processing), Excel (spreadsheets), Outlook, and Power Point, also AutoCAD 2004 (soon 2009, computer drafting), Adobe pdf, Google Earth, some GIS (public info gathering) and GPS (handheld), MS Paint and MS Photo Manager (some Photoshop), and of course, surf the Internet and email daily. I have taken many online courses and am very familiar with the Blackboard and the Desire2Learn online courseware systems: class participation discussion boards, live chats with voice, quizzes, uploading assignments, up and downloading photos, videos, widgets, links, etc. I would prefer to work with elementary and middle school students in learning basic computer operations, word-processing, and how to do research. And prefer to work with High school or community college students on learning basic AutoCAD, or familiarizing high school and college students with online research techniques, and online courseware.
