About Shari:

I had a 4.0 in high school and was valedictorian of my class. I have some college background and am currently taking courses at SFCC towards my degree. I am very passionate about teaching and learning! I homeschooled my three children, who are now grown and two graduated with Bachelor's degrees before the age of 20. All three of them were in the Running Start program by the age of 16. I have also tutored several other children who attended local public schools, ranging from five to fifteen years old. I especially enjoy teaching younger children, and my favorite subjects include math, reading/phonics, and language. I love to work with very bright children as well as those who are struggling to keep up in school. I am happy to provide my own curriculum for the needed subject(s), or I am also experienced with supplementing and working with the curriculum the child is using at his/her school. Watching a child learn and grow is one of my greatest joys! I would be honored to be able to be a part of your child's learning experience.

More On Shari's Subjects:

  • elementary (k-6th)

Elementary school-aged children are my favorite age group to teach! Having homeschooled my three children for almost 20 years and tutored several others, I have had experience in working with different age groups and learning styles. Each child is unique and I believe strongly in one on one tutoring as it fosters greater accountability and promotes learning that caters to that specific child's individual needs. I am willing to provide a separate curriculum for needed subjects, or am willing to work with the curriculum from the child's classroom at school. I really enjoy teaching younger children to read with the Phonics method! It is a great joy and reward for me to watch their eyes sparkle when they learn something new! I would be honored to work with your child, whether very bright and needing more of a challenge or one who is behind and struggling in school.

  • phonics

Phonics is one of my favorite subjects to teach, and especially to young children. I am also willing to work with older children who have struggled with reading and need extra help. Having taught all three of my own children to read by the age of 4 and tutored several others, I have had experience with diverse learning styles and am willing to work with your child's unique abilities and needs. I would be honored to have such a crucial role in your child's education.
