I have always loved learning throughout my whole life both as a student and as a teacher, coach and presenter. Learning and fun and high expectations can go hand in hand.
I have both academic experience (18 years of school) and practical experience using what has been taught in the classroom. Anybody can teach how to memorize numbers or phrases or plays or answers, it takes someone who cares and is demanding (in a good sort of way) to get the student to really understand the material. In my book...if the student hasn't learned, the teacher hasn't taught!
My approach with students is first, get to know them and what makes them different. Next, get a feel from what they like about the topic. Last, step them through the material and let them make mistakes...that is how we learn in life. Better to make mistakes in tutoring and learn long-term, than not be able to handle the
things life throws at you.....like 4 hour long proctored SAT or GRE exams!
