Hi! My name is Aubrey, and I recently moved to California from the East Coast. I received a B.A. in Linguistics from the College of William and Mary in December 2007, and hope to soon pursue graduate education. Just in case you aren't quite sure, Linguistics is the study of language--not necessarily one language in particular; it is the study of grammar and syntax, phonetics (production and perception of sounds), semantics, and pragmatics. It is a highly analytical field of study; in this way it is very similar to computer science.
While my degree is in Linguistics, I was previously a biology major--I have experience with college-level biology, chemistry, neuroscience, psychology, statistics, and calculus.
I also have an avid interest in other cultures; I studied Japanese throughout college and visited Japan for a semester during my freshman year of college. I have learned much about other cultures through teaching ESL classes and conducting one-on-one ESL lessons.
I have always been successful with teaching ESL, as I am patient and know how difficult it is to acquire a new language; I will always find new ways to explain concepts and can tailor lessons for each individual.
