About Ashley:

I graduated from the University of Michigan--Ann Arbor in April of 2008 with a 4.0 Cumulative GPA. My concentration is Asian Studies (Japanese), with a minor in History of Art. I received many A+'s at the college level, especially in Japanese. I am a perfectionist, an excellent proofreader, and enjoy explaining things I understand in order to help others understand. While in college, I often thought about how I would teach a certain class or subject, or how I would explain a topic to someone who did not know about it, so hopefully I will be able to help you! College and high school were not necessarily easy for me because I cared a lot about grades, but I also know how frustrating it can be to not understand what you learn in class. I know that through teaching others, one understands what he or she teaches better, so the tutoring process will be beneficial for us both. I look forward to working with you! Thanks for checking out my profile.

More On Ashley's Subjects:

  • Japanese

I received my Bachelor of Arts With Highest Distinction from the University of Michigan--Ann Arbor in Asian Studies, with a concentration in Japanese Language. I took Japanese for two years in high school, during which time I participated twice in the Japan Bowl at Michigan State University. I studied Japanese for three years at the university level, and am a member of the Japanese National Honor Society College Chapter. In March of 2008, I performed a skit with my classmates at the Japanese Speech/Skit Contest held at Yazaki North American Learning Center. A photo and write-up of our performance appeared in the April issue of Japan News Club. My awards from the Japanese Language department at U of M include: 3rd Year Japanese Language Skit Contest (1st place group); 3rd Year Japanese Language Speech Contest (2nd place); 2nd Year Japanese Language Speech Contest (1st place); 1st Year Japanese Language Speech Contest (1st place); and 1st Year Japanese Language Skit Contest (1st place). I am confident in my Japanese writing skills, and am able to hold conversations with Japanese nationals. My overall college GPA is a 4.0, including five A+'s for my courses in Japanese. In addition to Japanese language, I have taken many classes on Japanese culture (including history, religion and literature), and aided in a research project dealing with Edo-era Japan. Overall, I feel my experiences with Japanese are numerous, and my credentials are very good.
