I have 15 years of experience as a Lecturer and Trainer, teaching accounting, commerce, finance ,banking, bank regulation and economics at university level.
I have nine years of professional experience in financial analysis, financial planning, budgeting, policy formulation and bank regulation. I functioned as a Bank Examiner for six years (2000-2006) in the Bank Supervision Department of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the bank regulatory agency. My responsibilities required a mix of technical and managerial/leadership skills. I assessed the risk profile of banks.
Prior to my stint with the Central Bank, I served in the Finance and Planning Division of the Bank of Ceylon, the largest commercial bank in Sri Lanka, as a Financial Analyst (Executive Officer). In this role, I was actively involved in the development of plans and implemented programs to continuously improve the performance of the Bank and participated extensively in the strategic planning process and led the budgeting process of the Bank.
I recently graduated from the George Washington University, Washington DC with the Master of Science in Finance (MSF) degree.
I hold an Honors Degree from the University of Jaffna, Sri Lanka and a Masters Degree in Business Administration (MBA) from the Postgraduate Institute of Management (PIM), University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka, the best business school in Sri Lanka. The University of Jaffna awarded me the University Prize for the best performance in the Final Degree examination.
I’m an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA, UK).This is equivalent to the Chartered Management Accountants (CMA) qualification in the USA. I’m also an associate member of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka. I was awarded a subject prize at the intermediate examination of the Institute of Bankers of Sri Lanka.
