About Susan

I have twelve years of experience as a high school teacher in English, literature, composition, and SAT review. I enjoy helping students do their best. I have an undergraduate degree in English, a master's in English education, and have recently finished a graduate degree in English literature. My recent graduate studies have given me a chance to study American literature in more depth. My thesis focused on African - American literature. In my free time I enjoy collage, painting, and mixed media art.

study skills

My ten years of teaching experience have helped me to understand the reading, writing, and organizational skills students need for academic success. I have worked within a high school science department, focusing on text book reading strategies, lab writing strategies, and study skills. As an English teacher, I encouraged students to use different organizational strategies for writing and graphic organizers as study sheets for literary selections and vocabulary. Recently I team taught a study skills class where a colleague and I developed projects addressing specific reading strategies for fiction and non-fiction. I am well versed in reading strategies that can help with comprehension of different textbooks.
